The residents of Northeast Mississippi can select from five companies for high-speed Internet service. Comcast and CenturyLink offer broadband Internet service through a fiber optic network. WildBlue and HughesNet offer satellite Internet service. WildBlue requires leasing the receiving equipment. HughesNet gives you the option of leasing or purchasing the equipment. AT&T; offers DSL service throughout Northeast Mississippi and U-verse in Oxford, Mississippi.

Comcast

Comcast (comcast.com) provides high-speed broadband Internet service to Northeast Mississippi through a fiber-optic network. Download speeds are from 6 Mbps (megabits per second) to 8 Mbps, and upload speeds are from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps. A security suite provides virus, privacy and firewall protection. Comcast high-speed broadband Internet service includes parental controls, seven email accounts and 10 GB (gigabytes) of storage. You can watch live sports at ESPN3.com.

WildBlue

WildBlue (wildblue.com) provides high-speed satellite Internet service to Northeast Mississippi with download speeds from 512 Kbps (kilobits per second) to 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds from 128 Kbps to 258 Kbps. Download thresholds are 7,500 MB to 17,000 MB. Upload thresholds are 2,300 MB to 5,000 MB. A threshold is the amount of data you can download or upload per day, after which the service provider can deliberately slow down your service. WildBlue high-speed Internet service includes up to 10 email addresses, anti-virus and anti-spyware software and professional installation of a 26-inch mini-dish and a modem that you will lease from WildBlue.

HughesNet

HughesNet (hughesnet.com) provides high-speed satellite Internet service to Northeast Mississippi with download speeds from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps and upload speeds of 200 Kbps to 300 Kbps. The download threshold is from 200 MB to 400 MB. You can purchase or lease equipment. HughesNet high-speed satellite Internet service includes up to 10 email addresses, technical support and professional installation of a satellite antenna and an HN9000 modem.

AT&T;

AT&T; (att.com) provides high-speed DSL Internet service to Northeast Mississippi. Downstream speeds are from 768 Kbytes to 6 Mbps.
