Residents of Manatee County, Florida have access to satellite, cable, DSL or FiOS high speed Internet service, depending on their service address. Some Internet service providers cover specific areas within the county and have exclusivity based on the type of Internet being provided within that region. This means customers may not have a choice of multiple cable, satellite or DSL providers.

Cable

Bright House Networks (brighthouse.com) provides high speed cable Internet in the cities of Bradenton Beach, Bradenton, Anna Maria, Palmetto and Holmes Beach. Road Runner, the brand name for the provider's high speed Internet service, offers speeds ranging from up to 10 Mbps to 40 Mbps based on the package available to a given service address. Customers get additional features like free access to a security suite, parental controls, the Road Runner Video Channel, and Road Runner Photo Show 5 to create musical slideshows. In some areas of Manatee County, Comcast is the high speed Internet provider. Comcast offers several plans with speeds ranging up to 20 Mbps. Customers may watch live sports games on ESPN3 and take advantage of free security tools with Constant Guard.

DSL and FiOS

Verizon (Verizon.com) provides DSL high speed Internet in some areas of Manatee County and FiOS in others. FiOS uses a fiber-to-the-premises network to deliver Internet service to subscribers. Verizon's regular high speed DSL Internet provides customers with speeds of up to 1 Mbps, while the enhanced service provides speeds of up to 15 Mbps. FiOS customers in this region can experience download speeds of up to 35 Mbps. Customer support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and subscribers get free access to ESPN3.com and Verizon Wi-Fi hotspots. Customers must have an active phone line and sign an agreement for service. A credit check may be required.

Satellite

HughesNet (hughesnet.com) provides satellite high speed Internet service in Manatee County. Customers must have a clear view of the southern sky for service, but an active phone line is not required. Customers may choose from three high speed Internet plans: Basic, Power 150 and Power 200. The Basic plan has speeds of up to 1 Mbps, up to 1.5 Mbps for the Power 150 and up to 2 Mbps for the Power 200. Customers must agree to a credit check if leasing equipment from the provider. All HughesNet plans require a 24-month commitment.

Considerations

Fiber optic Internet service may be limited to specific areas of Manatee County. Discuss your Internet usage habits with each ISP to ensure you subscribe to a service plan that will meet your needs. Review limitations, contracts and promotions with providers carefully. Always ask for the rates of services once promotions expire to ensure you are not caught unaware at expiration.
