Go-Kart Attractions in Michigan

by Ian Farquharson

The thrill of getting up some speed in a go-kart can provide adrenaline-pumping fun for kids and adults alike. Residents and visitors to Michigan looking to try out their go-kart driving skills have a variety of tracks and facilities from which to choose. Whether you are in the upper or lower regions of the state, finding a convenient go-kart track should not prove too difficult.

Northeast Michigan

Arzo Sports & Fun Park (arzopark.com), located in Alpena Township, boasts one of the longest go-kart tracks in Michigan. An outdoor facility, the track measures in at 1,250 feet, with plenty of twists and turns to make it a challenge for those who use it. The fleet of karts have bodywork painted with individual designs, and come in a choice of one-seat or two-seat models. Those that want to drive must have a height of 48 inches or taller.

Northwest Michigan

Traverse City, in Northwest Michigan, has a couple of amusement parks with go-kart racing available. Pebble Brook Golf Fun Park (pebblebrookgolf.net) offers kids the chance to try their hand at go-kart driving on a custom outdoor track, with single and double karts available. Pirates Cove (piratescove.net) also has a facility in Traverse City offering a range of activities for children. This includes a go-kart track for younger children, aged three to eight.

Southeast Michigan

Located in Sterling Heights, southeast Michigan, Kart to Kart (kart2kart.com) offers indoor go-cart racing for children and adults. The 1/5-mile track features computer monitored timing to provide participants with accurate lap times, and the facility uses indoor karts with a racing design chassis. Options for racing include taking part in the daily open practice, which features one session of head-to-head racing, or opting for the grand prix, which has a separate practice, qualifying and race session. The track also offers private rentals for large groups.

Southwest Michigan

The Hidden Pointe Fun Park & Hall (hiddenpointe.net) is located in the far southwest corner of Michigan, in the city of Benton Harbor, and provides a variety of attractions for visitors. This includes a 1,000-foot-long go-kart track, which has single and two-seat karts available. Drivers must have a height of 54 inches or greater, although smaller children can enjoy the fun by riding along in the two-seat karts.

Michigan Upper Peninsula

Residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula also have entertainment facilities available to enjoy some go-kart fun. This includes Mine Shaft & Rock House (mineshaftfun.com) in Houghton, which has an outdoor area known as the Huron Creek Speedway. This runs to a quarter-mile in length, and incorporates a bridge and a tunnel in its design. Drivers take to the track in gas-powered vehicles, with a choice of either go-karts or Formula One cars available.
