by Justin Melick, Demand Media

Florida is home to some of America's oldest cities, so it is only natural that ghost tales would abound. There are many haunted places in Pinellas County. You will be taken on a guided walk through locations known to be haunted. If you're lucky your tour group will be joined by one or more invisible strangers. Unlike you, these special guests won't have to pay for their tickets on one of the several ghost tours available.

    St. Petersburg Ghost Tour

Downtown St. Petersburg is home to a nightly walking ghost tour by candlelight. It starts at 8 p.m. A professional guide will relay the history behind each of the haunted destinations. These sites include the Walker Mansion where a ghost named Harriet is said to still post watch over her children; the Indigo Hotel, which was once a hospital and still the home of a ghostly girl named Sarah; and the Cordova Hotel where a long dead butler named Charles still makes his rounds.

    Tampa Ghost Tour

Tampa has a long-standing reputation for hosting a great deal of supernatural activity. A nightly 90 minute walking tour is available for those who dare enter this otherworldly realm. Stops include The Old Tampa Bay Hotel, haunted by a spirit known as "The Brown Man," the bay where phantom ships have been reported, the haunted Tampa Theater and the graves of William and Nancy Ashley at Oaklawn Cemetery.

    Clearwater Ghost Tour

Clearwater is home to what many believe is one of the most haunted sites in Florida. The Belleview Biltmore Hotel opened its doors in 1897. It was founded by railroad tycoon Henry Plant, who died two years after the hotel opened. Over the years a number of people have died at the hotel including a bride who jumped from the top floor upon hearing of her husband's death. Many cases of supernatural activity have been reported by guests and staff members. Professional ghost hunters have reported seeing full figured apparitions and have recorded disembodied voices. Ghost tours are now offered every Saturday night at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.

    Tour Locations

The St. Petersburg ghost tours depart from Hooker Tea Co. , 300 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. The Tampa ghost tours depart from Indigo Cafe, 514 N.
