If your partner has a good sense of humor and likes to take the edge off serious moments, come up with somewhere funny to propose. Proposals for marriage are usually quite serious and are often done in beautiful locations to make the entire process more romantic. Going against this stereotype is a good way to generate some humor, but it should only be done with a partner who understands and shares your penchant for swimming against the tide. Funny places to propose include spoofs of romantic locations, awkward locations, inappropriate locations and any location that has special significance.
One option for a humorous place to propose depends on your specific relationship and the jokes you have shared. Making a reference to a running joke you have as a couple can be an easy way to inject humor into your proposal. For example, if you always had "romantic" meals in fast food restaurants when you were first dating, taking your partner to one of them and popping the question there can raise a smile.
Choose an inappropriate location to propose if your partner has a particularly twisted or devilish sense of humor. One man, for example, invited his girlfriend to a funeral of one of his family members. After the burial, he got down on one knee and proposed. Likewise, you could propose at funerals, in court, in a hospital or in a mortuary. If your partner has an important job, you could gate crash a vital meeting and propose there.
Spoofs of Romantic Locations
Many people propose in a traditionally romantic location such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which is the biggest monument in that romantic city (and where Tom Cruise proposed). Some humorous places to propose are spoofs on stereotypes such as this. One example would be the fake Eiffel Tower on the Las Vegas strip. You could even crack a joke about intending to do it in front of the real Eiffel Tower but not having the money for the plane tickets. Or you could get a little souvenir Eiffel Tower and put it on a coffee table as you get down on one knee.
The beauty of proposing in awkward situations is that it makes the simple process of asking and answering the key question extremely difficult. One good example would be during a scuba dive. You can't speak, so you will have to hold up a ring and devise a mime for "Will you marry me?" Your partner will have to respond with a nod or a shake of the head or a thumbs up or thumbs down. If an underwater is not for you, you could try proposing on a high-octane roller-coaster ride. Lay the romantic cliches on thick to maximize the humor in this method. Your partner will have to struggle to hear you, and it will give her a double dose of adrenaline rush.
