Shakopee has the advantage of easy proximity to the Minneapolis area but also maintains its own sites that can provide an enjoyable day of excitement. Local resources allow people to appreciate Shakopee's small-town atmosphere while accessing the types of historical, cultural and amusement venues available in any large metropolitan area.

Educational Activities

Spend a day exploring the history of the Shakopee region. Head to the Historic Murphy's Landing (threeriversparks.org) where you will find hours of interesting interactive activities that provide information about life in the pioneer days of Shakopee. You can see costumed docents who explain about late 19th-century life in Minnesota and children can "play house 1800s style" in the historic Martinson House. Visit the Scott County Historical Society's sites (scottcountyhistory.org), including the Gothic Revival Style Episcopal church in Belle Plaine, the Stans House and the S. B. Strait House. Each of these sites exhibits objects and artifacts that provide information about the settlement of the town.
