When it is raining outside and your friends are away, keep yourself busy with a variety of activities. Even adults can keep entertained with a few indoor activities. Use supplies from around your home or purchase supplies from a local craft store to keep on hand for a rainy day. With a few ideas and a creative imagination, you can open up a world of possibilities to keep yourself entertained and prevent boredom when all alone.
Use bottles of glue to create crafts on a rainy day. Place a sheet of wax paper on a table and use the glue to draw a picture, such as a cloud with raindrops falling from it. For more decoration, add food coloring to the glue and stir with a toothpick to give the picture color. Allow the glue to dry overnight and peel the glue off the wax paper. Display in your room to show off your artistic skills. Another idea is to make a picture with glue and sprinkle the picture with salt. Use an eyedropper to drop food coloring on the glue and watch the colors spread throughout the picture.
Movies and Snacks
Rent some movies and create some movie theater snacks. Get comfortable with blankets and pillows. Enjoy watching a variety of new and old movies on a rainy day. Make hot dogs, nachos and buttered popcorn to snack on while enjoying the movies. Other ideas include small boxes of candy or making a healthy snack mix. Mix food items like oats, almonds, coconut, raisins, powdered sugar, dried fruit, marshmallows, salt and chocolate chips into a bowl to make a trail mix snack.
Electronics can keep you busy when stuck indoors. From gaming consoles to MP3 players to hand-held games, use a variety of electronics to keep you busy. When you are flying solo, pop in your favorite video games and enjoy playing. MP3 players give you a chance to listen to your favorite music, or turn on your favorite CD to listen to your favorite song as loud as you want. Throw in some exercise by dancing and singing along. Another idea is to use your computer software. Play games on your computer or edit some of your favorite photos with photo-editing programs.
Other ideas include reading a book or magazine, doing a jigsaw puzzle, word searches and crossword puzzles. Girls and women can spend a few hours pampering themselves by painting their fingernails and toenails. Another idea is using facial scrubs and masks. Save boxes and empty containers to make projects using items, such as duct tape, aluminum foil and markers. Finger-paint with chocolate pudding on a plate and lick it clean for fun. Scrapbook, bake goodies and work on a family album. If you have a fireplace, roast marshmallows and hot dogs.
