Operated by the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission (ccprc.com), Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark is located just 9 miles from the heart of Summerville. The park is located on over 15 acres and features island-themed water play, water slides, a kiddie pool and a 27,000-square foot wave pool. Also operated by the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission, Splash Zone water park is located in the community of James Island, 11 miles from Summerville's downtown district. In addition to a leisure pool and multiple water slides, the park features a lazy river and Caribbean-style play structure complete with spray hoses and a waterfall.
Downtown Charleston, located 11 miles from the heart of Summerville, is home to Carolina Ice Palace (carolinaicepalace.com). The facility features an indoor ice skating rink and is open for figure skating, hockey and games of broom ball. The facility may also be rented for private parties and events and classes are available. 20 minutes from Summerville in the Charleston suburb of Mount Pleasant, the Batter Up Batting Cage and Training Center (batterupmountpleasant.com) features indoor batting cages and instruction for baseball fans of all ages. Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, the Children's Museum of the Low Country (explorecml.org) offers interactive exhibits and weekly classes that allow children to play and explore as they learn about significant points in history. Also in downtown Charleston, the South Carolina Aquarium (scaquarium.org) offers kids a fun, interactive approach to learning about seal life. The museum is home to more than 60 exhibits including fish, amphibians, plants and reptiles.
