Fun Places for Kids in Janesville, WI

Janesville, known as the "Park Place" of Wisconsin, has a population of 62,000 as of August 2011. A city within Rock County, Janesville is on the southern border of Wisconsin and served by interstates 90, 39 and 43. Janesville is seven miles from the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport.

Downtown Janesville (Lower Courthouse Park)

Each year, an activity calendar is published with events happening in Downtown Janesville. Many activities are for children. For example, the Main Street Entertainment Series offers several outdoor events including music and variety acts. Totally Talent Tuesday's allows kids under 18 to showcase talents on stage. Kid's Noon Time Entertainment features sing-along style shows that children can participate in or watch.

Educational Places

The Aldo Leopold Nature Center (naturenet.com) offers an assortment of family programming, including many environmentally friendly activities. A special program at the Nature Center, The Kid's Shack, allows children to experience living like Aldo Leopold and his family. The shack was used by Leopold's family and is featured in many of the essays published in "A Sand County Almanac."

Janesville Parks

The park's department offers swimming, softball, sledding, biking or free play in greenbelts and open spaces. The Youth Sports Complex on South Wuthering Hills Drive includes 12 soccer fields, four regulation football fields and baseball diamonds. Lions Beach has swimming and picnic tables.

A Place for Supervised Entertainment

CSA Kids (csakids.com) is a fee-based arts and fitness center for children. CSA Kids has activities for children ranging from cheerleader workshops to tap classes to gymnastics. Kidz Night Out is designed to give parents a night off, while kids have fun with peers and participate in activities such as watching movies, gymnastics, swimming and eating pizza. All CSA Kids programs are supervised.
