Known as the "Venice of America," Fort Lauderdale is an ocean-lover's paradise. This South Florida city features miles of canals and sandy beaches to explore, as well as an active night life. Many hotels in Ft. Lauderdale are located near both the ocean and the canal, offering good access to both shopping and sunbathing and excellent views in all directions.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa

With a Mobil rating of four stars, the Ritz-Carleton Spa is an ideal destination for luxury travelers visiting Ft. Lauderdale. Perched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway, this hotel combines first class accommodations and breathtaking views. The hotel features a spa with 11 treatment rooms, a couple's treatment suite and a high tech fitness center with daily classes.Guests also have access to the members-only Grande Oaks Golf Course including restaurant, bar and other amenities. The hotel also features a variety of dining options including the Italian grill the Via Luna cafe, a 5,000 bottle wine cellar, an oceanfront bar and a poolside cafe offering light fare.

Renaissance Marriott

The Renaissance Fort Lauderdale is a full-service spa hotel with three Mobil stars and a Caribbean theme. Located on the inter-coastal waterway amidst a variety of fine dining and boutique shopping destinations, this hotel is less than five minutes from the ocean. The Renaissance completed a $6 million renovation in 2008 and features 36-inch plasma televisions and pillow-top mattresses, with luxury suites available. On-site dining options include Bistro 17 featuring New American cuisine as well as the Lobby Lounge located beside the pool. In addition to the pool, the hotel has fitness equipment, a whirlpool and a sauna for guests to enjoy.

Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six

The three-star Pier Sixty-Six Hyatt Regency hotel is a great choice for water-lovers who want to get around Fort Lauderdale's waterfront without using a car. This hotel offers guests transportation by water taxi and has a private marina. The Pier Sixty-Six is also particularly well suited for allergy sufferers; it offers specially treated Respire rooms with air purification and a special cleaning and maintenance program to reduce dust and other airborne pollutants. For family-friendly accommodations at a reasonable price, the two-star Best Western Oceanside Inn is a good option. Located between the inter-coastal waterway and the beach, this hotel has every bit as good a location as more expensive Fort Lauderdale accommodations. The Oceanside Inn provides free Wi-Fi and a complimentary breakfast buffet as well as a pool, a cocktail lounge, and access to local dining and shopping.
