Mosaic art is art made from small ceramic pieces formed into shapes, patterns or pictures. Mosaic art is set in cement or mortar, and is heavy and thick. Displaying mosaic art on a wall can be somewhat difficult. The easiest way to hang mosaic art is to create a frame to surround the mosaic and then hang the frame against the wall. In most cases, there is no need to add a separate backing to the frame, as the mosaic piece itself provides a substantial backing piece.

Items you will need

  • Measuring tape
  • ¼ inch plywood strips
  • Table saw
  • Miter saw
  • Wood glue
  • Picture frame brackets
  • Ceramic glue
Step 1

Measure the length of the sides of the mosaic piece. Add ¼ inch to each measurement. Cut four strips of wood equaling these measurements. Cut the ends of each wood piece at a 45 degree angle with a miter saw. Make sure the ends can fit together snugly into a frame shape. You will have to make one angle going from right to left, and the next going from left to right to make the frame fit properly.

Step 2

Glue the four wood pieces together to make a frame. Glue the frame to the sides of the mosaic. Allow the glue to dry overnight.

Step 3

Glue two mounting brackets to the back of the mosaic piece. Make sure the brackets sit evenly on the back of the frame so that the mosaic hangs evenly.
