Florida Spring Training Hotels

by Nicholas Katers

Florida becomes a haven for baseball lovers every March with the start of spring training. The Grapefruit League is a 15-team league throughout Florida featuring Major League Baseball franchises like the Yankees and Red Sox. These teams compete in spring training games from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Coast in anticipation of the regular season. Travelers can find hotels and inns in Florida cities where spring training facilities are concentrated.

Fort Myers

Hotels in the Fort Myers area keep baseball fans close to facilities for the Red Sox, Twins and Rays. The Legacy Harbor Hotel & Suites houses suites with kitchens, sitting rooms and views of the Caloosahatchee River. This waterfront hotel features an outdoor pool as well as a marina with 131 boat decks for outdoor enthusiasts. The Hyatt Place Fort Myers/At the Forum speeds up the check-in process with self-service kiosks in the lobby. Guests can order sandwiches from the hotel's Grab 'n Go counter and fresh-baked snacks at the Bakery Cafe.

Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay area offers accommodations near spring training parks for the Yankees and Blue Jays. Chase Suite Hotels appeals to active travelers with a basketball court as well as an outdoor pool. Guests can mingle with fellow travelers during the weekday reception or host picnics in the grill area. Rooms and suites at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay combine high-tech amenities like MP3 radios with upscale features like granite counters. Travelers can burn calories by playing on the hotel's tennis courts before sitting down for Italian entrees at Armani’s on the 14th floor.

Kissimmee

Visitors to the Kissimmee area can balance trips to Braves and Astros games with stays at hotels near Disney World. The Inn at Oak Plantation appeals to families by providing shuttles to Disney parks as well as discounted tickets to local attractions. This hotel maintains a playground as well as an arcade to entertain young guests away from the ballpark. Patrons of the Bohemian Hotel Celebration find luxury amenities like bathrobes and four-poster beds in their rooms. An afternoon at this property can include tours of the Grand Bohemian Gallery before steak dinners at the Bohemian Bar and Grill.

Port St. Lucie

Spring training visitors stay close to camps for the Mets, Cardinals and Marlins at hotels near Port St. Lucie. Guest rooms at the Monterey Inn & Marina offer unobstructed views of the Okeechobee Waterway. Travelers interested in fishing the waterway can use the hotel’s 12-slip marina for their boats. The Inn at Tilton Place welcomes travelers with couches and a fireplace in the lobby. This property was built in 1902 but uses eco-friendly practices like recycling and organic food purchases. Guests at the Inn at Tilton Place gather for a wine reception on the outdoor deck each evening.
