New York may be known as the city that never sleeps, but when traveling with kids in tow, a good night’s rest is essential. You can unwind in a hotel that offers plenty of space for the whole family, close proximity to all-ages attractions and special extras geared toward younger guests.

Doubletree Guest Suites

The recently renovated Doubletree Guest Suites at Times Square got nods from Fodor’s and Frommers for its family friendliness. The hotel has a full floor of childproof, spacious two-bedroom suites with living and dining rooms. A Kids Club welcomes children aged 3 through 12 for activities and play. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Central Park, Madison Square Garden, Rockefeller Center and other popular attractions. Family dining is available on-site for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a special kid’s menu. Guests can request a free crib rental when making a room reservation.

Loews Regency Hotel

Loews Regency Hotel on the Upper East Side has the philosophy “the family that plays together stays together.” The hotel gives kid visitors a Fisher Price welcome gift on arrival and access to a game-lending library. The restaurant on site has a play area and kid’s menu with healthy fare. The hotel can recommend activities for kids of all ages, and has Kidbanas poolside recreation and Teen Education vacation programs. A tuck-in butler delivers milk and cookies nightly. The popular toy retailer FAO Schwartz is just steps away from the hotel.

East Village Bed & Coffee

The 11-room East Village Bed & Coffee is owned by Anne Edris, an artist and self-declared "foodie." Edris opened the inn to offer an inexpensive and friendly home away from home for people of all ages to lay their hat after a long day in the Big Apple. The spacious black-and-white room is an ideal size for families and can accommodate a crib, which is offered for a nominal $5 nightly fee (as of November 2010). A small foldable stroller is also available. Little boys will love the themed flight room on the top floor, with airplane-print bedding and blue walls decorated with maps. The owner can arrange babysitting services for a fee with advance notice. Tompkins Square Park is located just one block away and has two playgrounds. The inn recently replaced its windows with soundproofed ones -- a welcome feature for moms with light sleepers.

Kimpton Hotels

The KimptonKids program is prepared for families, offering recommendations for family- and kid-friendly activities, classes, restaurants and services near the property. Guests traveling with babies can pack a little lighter since the hotel provides cribs, playpens, high chairs, booster seats and child safety kits, as well as outlet covers, night lights and toilet latches. Child guests receive a welcome gift and an animal-print terrycloth bathrobe to use during their stay. The hotel can arrange a licensed, accredited babysitter, car rental with car seats and stroller rental for a fee. Families can choose from four Kimpton Hotels in New York City — the 70 park avenue hotel, The Muse New York, Ink48 and Eventi.
