When you visit Birmingham, Alabama, you'll find a wide variety of family activities from the city zoo to a hands-on science center. After a day on the run, you can relax at a kid-friendly hotel located near some of the major attractions. Many Birmingham hotels include heated pools, sports courts and free breakfasts to attract families.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Birmingham-South/Inverness

Homewood Suites offers families a twofer: on-site activities and proximity to kid-friendly attractions in Birmingham. On the hotel grounds, you can enjoy the swimming pool and tennis and basketball courts. The rooms come with full refrigerators and microwaves, and you're invited for complimentary breakfast and evening snacks. When you're ready to venture out, the hotel is a short drive to parks, museums and the Birmingham Zoo. Back at the hotel, you can rent videos for the family to watch in the room.

Drury Inn & Suites Southeast and Southwest

At both locations of the Drury Inn & Suites, your day starts with free hot breakfast choices including scrambled eggs, waffles and biscuits with gravy, and it ends with complimentary drinks and dishes such as chicken strips and chili. In between, guests can swim in the indoor/outdoor pool and enjoy free soda and popcorn in the lobby. The southwest branch is close to the McWane Science Center, while the southeast one is near the Summit, a shopping mall with movies and restaurants.

Marriott Birmingham

Before you book, call the Marriott Birmingham to find out about current kid-oriented promotions that take place for months at a time. For instance, during a Nickelodeon promotion, children receive activity books, special beverage cups, and a turn-down at night with a storybook and decorated pillowcase they get to keep. All year long, the hotel offers families an indoor pool and a casual on-site restaurant with a children's menu. Within about a mile, you'll find other kid-friendly eateries, including a pizza parlor and bakery/sandwich shop. The Marriott is also near attractions such as a bowling alley and the Birmingham Zoo.

Residence Inn Birmingham Inverness

Your family can enjoy a variety of sports at the Residence Inn Birmingham Inverness. The hotel features a sand volleyball court, a basketball court and a swimming pool. Even teenagers won't go hungry at the Residence Inn. It has a full kitchen in every room, plus you're served a free hot breakfast and dinner, with rotating entrees from chili dogs to pot roast. The hotel is located within a mile of the Summit shopping center and 25 restaurants, including local eateries and national chains.
