Easy to Make Sports Table Centerpieces

by Jane Ellis

An attractive and clever centerpiece can be that needed finishing touch for a sports-themed party. Luckily, you can easily make an inexpensive sports-related centerpiece with just a few items that can be picked up at most craft stores. In addition, this centerpiece can be tailored to any sport. It does not matter if you love football, baseball, hockey or some other activity, just change the graphics and colors to fit your theme and favorite team.

Items you will need

  • Round or square glass containers
  • Colored sand
  • Stencils
  • Foam construction paper
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Polystyrene foam shapes
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Dowel rods
  • Ribbon
Step 1

Use the dimensions of your tables to determine the type and size of glass container you want to use for your centerpiece. For example, if you are using small, round tables, you may want to select a narrower container. On the other hand, if you have long tables, you may want to use several large containers.

Step 2

Fill the container with colored sand, preferably in the shades of your favorite team. For instance, if you are a fan of the Green Bay Packers, use green and yellow sand. Fill the container by alternating layers of each color to create a pretty pattern.

Step 3

Use stencils of sports figures or draw sports-related shapes such as footballs, baseballs, pennants or pucks on foam or heavyweight construction paper. Cut out, decorate and personalize your shapes and figures in team colors or with team names and mascots.

Step 4

Decorate polystyrene foam ball shapes to look like soccer balls, baseballs or other sports paraphernalia.

Step 5

Hot glue wooden dowel rods to your shapes or insert the rods into the polystyrene foam shapes. Dowels can be painted to match the rest of your centerpiece's colors or left natural. When the glue is dry, place the rods, with the figures attached, into the sand of the centerpiece.

Step 6

Tie ribbons in colors that match the rest of your centerpiece around the dowels and let them hang down for a pretty streaming effect.
