Maryland's Eastern Shore is a scenic area that lies east of the Chesapeake Bay and west of the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounded by water and crisscrossed by rivers and marshes, the area has a distinct nautical feel. The Eastern Shore is close to both the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore metropolitan areas; and its quaint historic towns, waters and beautiful resorts have long been popular playgrounds for city types looking to escape the urban jungle.

The Inn at Perry Cabin

Viewers of the 2005 movie "Wedding Crashers" may have been intrigued by a beautiful waterfront resort that was the setting for one of the film's key weddings. It was The Inn at Perry Cabin, an elegant circa 1816 manor house resort located in the charming town of St. Michaels. The inn has 78 rooms and suites with a nautical decor that are furnished with a mix of antiques and modern pieces. Pets are allowed for a nonrefundable fee of $100 for the first pet, $50 for any additional pets are as of 2010. For additional fees, chef-created menu items and bottled water are also available for your pet.

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina

This huge, sprawling waterfront resort is located on 400 acres and boasts a golf course, tennis courts, a spa, restaurants and a 150-slip marina, among other amenities. The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay has over 400 tastefully decorated suites and rooms to choose from, including special hypo-allergenic units. The hotel also has pet-friendly rooms. There is a limit of two pets per room, and each pet must weigh under 70 lb. In addition, because the Eastern Shore is popular with waterfowl and other hunters, this resort has four outdoor kennels available for hunting dogs.

Harbourtowne Golf Resort and Conference Cener

The Harbourtowne Golf Resort and Conference Center sits near the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and the Miles River, and all of its 111 rooms and suites have a waterfront view from either the patio or balcony. In addition, the resort has its Point and Bayview rooms, which are located in smaller one-story buildings situated on a peninsula, close to the water's edge. The resort features a golf course that was designed by Pete Dye and two restaurants.

Bob Pascal's St. Michaels Harbour Inn

This small St. Michaels resort features 38 large suites and eight guestrooms, a 52-transient-slip dock and a full-service spa. The waterfront hotel also has an on-site restaurant -- or you can walk or take the resort's complimentary shuttle to nearby restaurants in St. Michaels. The St. Michaels Harbour Inn also has bikes that guests can borrow. If you are looking for a special romantic weekend, choose the hotel's romance package, which includes dinner and breakfast, a couples massage, champagne and roses.
