Dublin Zoo sits in the southeastern corner of Phoenix Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe. Phoenix Park opened in 1662 with Dublin Zoo first opening its gates in 1831. The area around Phoenix Park is mainly residential, meaning the area does not have many hotels. However, you will still find a selection of hotels and guesthouses within an easy distance of Dublin Zoo.

Phoenix Park House

Phoenix Park House is one of two guesthouses closest to Dublin Zoo. It provides bed and breakfast, Irish Hotels Federation, accommodation near the edge of Phoenix Park. You can walk to Dublin Zoo from the guesthouse. Also within walking distance, you can enjoy a choice of pubs and restaurants. To explore Dublin city center, simply walk three minutes to Heuston Station and take a short journey on the LUAS tram.

Gatelodge Guest House

Next to Phoenix Park's main gate and within walking distance of Dublin Zoo, you will find the Gatelodge Guest House. Guests are treated to a variety of breakfast foods, including a full Irish breakfast. The Ashling Hotel is the nearest hotel to Dublin Zoo. The hotel sits directly across the street from Heuston Station, providing a good base to visit Dublin Zoo and the city's other attractions for travelers who don't want to hire a car. From Dublin Airport you can take the Airlink coach to Heuston Station and from Heuston you can walk to your hotel, the zoo or jump on a tram to check out the sights, including Temple Bar, Grafton Street and Trinity College. The hotel provides modern guest rooms, including family rooms. Also, on-site you can enjoy a traditional carvery lunch or buffet breakfast in the restaurant.

Bewley's Hotel Ballsbridge

Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 is a 15 minute drive from Dublin Zoo. However, despite its distance from the zoo, the hotel deserves a mention. It is located just outside the city center in a wealthy, safe area that has regular public transportation into the city. It also offers a special family stay package the provides a family room and includes a family pass to Dublin Zoo. The hotel provides modern furnishings, free high-speed Internet and a children's menu in its restaurant.

Hilton Dublin Kilmainham

The Hilton hotel in Kilmainham, Dublin offers family friendly accommodation just 1.5 miles from Dublin Zoo. You can walk to the zoo in around 30 minutes, with half of the walk taking you through the scenery of Phoenix Park. Parents can enjoy an evening out at the Abbey Theatre or one of Dublin's restaurants by taking advantage of the hotel's child care service. Other family friendly perks of the hotel include a kid's menu and family packages. Guest rooms have views of the city, high-speed Internet and a contemporary feel with plasma TVs.
