Nothing is more festive than a Christmas tree, so bring the spirit of Christmas to the party by becoming one. This costume allows you to walk easily and see clearly when you are standing, but crouch down and the other guests will have to look closely to see that you are not a small artificial Christmas tree. Personalize your costume by choosing ornaments that suit your style, whether that's elegant satin ornaments or handcrafted felt ones.

Items you will need

  • 1-inch-wide single-strand artificial garland
  • Floral wire
  • Shears
  • Green cone-shaped party hat
  • Hot glue gun or stapler
  • Fishing line
  • Small satin or felt ornaments
Step 1

Join pieces of single-strand garland together by overlapping the ends by 1 inch and wiring them together until you have a 240-foot length of garland. Wrap a 4-inch piece of wire around the overlapped ends several times to join them.

Step 2

Wrap one end of the garland around a cone-shaped green party hat, beginning at the point. Spiral the garland around the hat so that very little of the green paper shows. Hold the garland in place with hot glue or staples.

Step 3

Place the wrapped hat in the center of a large area of floor. Spiral the garland around the hat, leaving a 1-inch space between the rings. Tie the rings together with short pieces of fishing line, leaving an inch of line between the rings of garland. Tie them together every 3 inches until the ring is 2 feet wide. After that, you can space the ties 4 inches apart. When you wear the hat, the garland will hang down in a big cone-shaped spiral.

Step 4

Continue forming the spirals and tying them together until the rings are 4 feet wide. Cut off any excess garland.

Step 5

Tie on small ornaments with short lengths of fishing line. This is easier if you can hang the tree on a bedpost or get a volunteer to wear it while you decorate.

Tips & Warnings

  • Staple a gold paper star to the top of the hat.
  • Glass, metal or hard plastic ornaments could become hazardous if they fall off or scrape someone as you move around.
  • Heavy ornaments will distort the garland's shape.
