Many musicians own multiple guitars and do not have a specific location to showcase and display them. A guitar wall hanger is a great way to save on space and storage, as well as display the various guitars you own. You can usually mount the wall hangers to the desired wall location and hang the guitars on hooks specifically designed for the instrument. However, wall hangers found at local music stores may lack in design or be costly. Thankfully, you can create your own wall hanger for your precious instruments with materials commonly found at your local hardware store for a low cost.

Items you will need

  • 8-foot two-by-four board
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • 5 rubberized tool hooks
  • Drill
  • 3/16-inch drill bit
  • Stud finder
  • Wall anchors
  • Wood screws
  • Screw driver
Step 1

Position the two-by-four board on a flat surface. Measure 16 inches from one edge of the board and mark the spot with a pencil. Repeat the procedure to measure 32, 48, 64 and 80 inches from the edge of the board.

Step 2

Drill five pilot holes in the marked locations with a 3/16-inch drill bit.

Step 3

Position and screw in a rubberized tool hook in each of the pilot holes. Screw in the tool hooks until they are tightened and the rubberized sheath presses against the wooden board. Turn the hooks so they are all horizontal in direction.

Step 4

Determine a location in which you would like to place the guitar hanger. Measure 7 feet from the bottom of the wall and mark the spot with a pencil.

Step 5

Locate the studs in your wall along the position in which you want to hang the guitar hanger. Mark the stud locations.

Step 6

Screw in the wall anchors in the stud locations marked on the wall.

Step 7

Position the board against the wall and mark the location of the studs on the board. Drill pilot holes in the board slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws. Screw the board with wood screws at the stud locations into the wall anchors.

Step 8

Place the guitars in the guitar hanger by hanging them on the desired tool hook.
