Disney World Family Hotels

by Anne Baley

Every resort hotel in Walt Disney World has a different flavor and atmosphere. While all of them are designed with families in mind, some seem to go over the top in family-friendliness. Whether your children are fans of animals, enjoy the water like fish or simply love the great outdoors, there is a Disney World family hotel that will fit in with their wishes for a dream Disney vacation.

what is a fallback

Disney's Contemporary Resort

While the Contemporary may look like a slick, high-tech modern hotel, its heart is in kids and Disney fun. Guests can begin their day eating Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles with Mickey himself at the signature character breakfast. The whole family can enjoy the two pools outside, including the larger one with a 17-foot curving water slide. The fourth floor arcade is open 24 hours a day and kids can watch Disney movies under the stars on the beach. The Contemporary is situated on Bay Lake, and offers family fishing excursions, parasailing, tubing and a beach for the little ones to play in the waves.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

For children who love animals, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a dream come true. Set in the middle of a 43-acre wildlife preserve, guests can encounter dozens of species of wild animals during their stay here. Disney has installed glassed-in alcoves throughout the hotel through which guests can discover animals roaming over the grassland. Guests can spy nocturnal animals by using night-vision goggles from a rock viewing platform after dinner or take special safari trips first thing in the morning. Many guest rooms offer a view of the compound, with the possibility of spotting giraffes, gazelles or flamingos right outside your bedroom.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Step into the lobby of the Wilderness Lodge and you'll swear you're in a lodge in the great Northwest. The lobby is seven stories tall and filled with artifacts celebrating Native American culture. Just outside the back of the lobby is a replica of Old Faithful, a true geyser that goes off at every hour throughout the day. Wilderness Lodge offers families rooms with log-frame bunk beds, so each child gets their own bed. Kids enjoy a game room, pool with a water slide, fishing and a 24-hour playground while the whole family can join in on Chip n Dale's campfire singalong and movies under the stars.

Disney's Polynesian Resort

If your kids are almost part fish, the Polynesian is where you'll want to stay. The lobby contains a two story waterfall surrounded by coconut palms and over 75 types of tropical plants. Water fun abounds in this resort, beginning with a pool with 40-foot volcano with a waterfall and tubular water slide. Families enjoy fishing, boating, parasailing and waterskiing on Bay Lake, while the little ones can spend time at the wet-play area near the volcano.
