Discount Hotels in Williamsburg

by Lisa Fritscher

The Colonial capital of Virginia, Williamsburg today is an eclectic blend of history and modern amusements. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates the historic district as a living history center, but modern attractions such as Busch Gardens and Water Country USA are just down the road. Williamsburg accommodations can be pricey, but discount hotels are readily available at every price point.

Governor’s Inn

The official Colonial Williamsburg hotels offer discounted length-of-stay tickets, priority reservations at the Colonial taverns and discounts on evening Colonial programs. Most official hotels are expensive, ranging from $100 to more than $600 per night in 2010. The Governor’s Inn is a budget option, offering the same benefits at rates that fall into the double digits, depending on season. The hotel is basic but comfortable, offering such amenities as free continental breakfast, an outdoor pool and complimentary access to the recreational facilities at the Williamsburg Woodlands hotel.

Days Hotel Williamsburg Busch Gardens

The Days Hotel Williamsburg Busch Gardens is a budget property at the entrance to Water Country USA, one mile from Busch Gardens. Despite the low room rate, the hotel offers expanded amenities, with an outdoor pool, a fitness center, a game room, a family picnic area, a 24-hour business center and a board game library. All guest rooms come with DVD players, wireless Internet access and complimentary newspapers. The on-site restaurant is open for breakfast only.

Holiday Inn Williamsburg Historic Gateway

The Holiday Inn Williamsburg Historic Gateway is a centrally located midrange hotel, one mile from Colonial Williamsburg and five miles from Busch Gardens. The hotel offers free wireless Internet access, a business center, a fitness center, an indoor heated swimming pool, concierge service and same-day dry cleaning service. Guest rooms feature HDTVs, evening turn-down service, microwaves and small refrigerators. Available suites have one or two bedrooms plus a pull-out couch. Kids eat free at the full-service restaurant.

Williamsburg Marriott

The Williamsburg Marriott offers an excellent value in the deluxe hotel category, with 2010 rates as low as $100 per night, depending on season. The hotel is convenient to both Busch Gardens and the historic district. Amenities include tennis courts, a full-service fitness center, an indoor-outdoor pool, a concierge desk and a business center. Guest rooms provide high-speed Internet access, premium bedding and upgraded bath products. Suites offer a separate living space with a sofa. The hotel has three restaurants and bars, as well as room service.
