Part of the off-road family of motorcycles, dirt bikes are built to be lightweight, fast and rugged to take on rough off-road courses. You do not have to an X-Games participant to enjoy dirt bike riding though, as many states have public and private courses and trails for riders of all skill levels to enjoy. In Kentucky, bikers have access to a wide variety of venues for dirt biking.
Motocross Tracks
For Kentuckians interested in motocross dirt bike racing, several venues in the state offer motocross tracks and courses. The Daniel Boone Motocross Track (danielboonemx.net) features a 1.3-mile trail cut into the side of mountain and offers riders several elevation changes and jumps. In addition, riders may rent the entire track for groups up to 15 and participate in riding clinics. Cumberland Parkway Motocross (cumberlandmx.tripod.com) has open practice times every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon and riders may also rent the entire track. Riders have access to both motocross and supercross tracks for racing at Dunn's Playground (dunnsplaygroundmotocross.com), with open practice times and a freestyle area.
Off-Road Parks
A number of off-road parks also exist in Kentucky that cater specifically to dirt bikers and other ATV riders. Some of the off-road parks simply include trails for riding, like at Dirty Turtle Offroad (dirtyturtleoffroad.com), with over 270 acres of off-road ATV and dirt bike trails, or Sharps ATV Riding Range (sharpsatv.com) featuring a round track, two mud pits and trails for riders of all levels. Other parks offer other amenities to riders, such as Big Rock Off Road Park (bigrockoffroadpark.com), which features camping sites with electric hookups and fire rings.
State and National Parks
Several national parks and state recreational areas in Kentucky also offer tails for dirt bike riders. The Harlan County Trails (harlancountytrails.com), part of the Black Mountain Recreational Park in Evarts, features over 200 miles of marked trails in the Appalachian Mountains for dirt bike riders of all levels. Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, the 65-mile loop of the Red Bird Crest Trail (fs.fed.us) offers one-day, three-day and annual passes. In Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (lbl.org), dirt bikers have access to over 100 miles of off-road trails as part of the Turkey Bay Park.
Indoor
Kentucky is even home to several indoor motocross tracks for dirt bike riders to enjoy riding all year round. Earlywine Racing (earlywineracing.com) features eight 24-foot lanes for racing, a beginner track, 70-foot tabletop for advanced riders and daily open practice times. The Taylor Racing Indoor Motocross Racing Facility (taylormoto.com) offers 32,000 square feet of racing space, open track times, annual memberships and races during the weekends.
