Different Ways to Paint a Room Two Colors

by Noel Shankel, Demand Media

Painting your room two different colors can create a visual pattern which is far more stimulating than only using one color. When painting your room two different colors, many options are at your disposal. From horizontal stripes to vertical stripes to thematically-colored rooms, having a second color of paint to choose from opens up a world of possibilities.

    The Sports Fanatic

If you are a sports fan of any team -- be it a basketball team, a hockey team or a baseball team -- you can paint your walls to show your dedication while only using two different colors of paint. Most professional teams only use two distinct colors to promote themselves. For example, the Dodgers use blue and white, the Giants use orange and black and the Raiders use silver and black. Once your walls are painted, try adding extra flair to fully celebrate your allegiance to the team. You can paint the official logo of the team on your ceiling, hang jerseys or display sports cards.

    The Animal Within

If you're an animal lover, try painting your room so that it represents your favorite two-toned creature of the wild. For example, you can paint your walls orange and then paint black dots over it to create the illusion of cheetah walls. Or, you can paint your walls white and add black stripes for a zebra effect. Black and white can also be used to represent a panda bear. Make sure to add extra features to truly highlight your love of a particular animal. If you go with cheetah walls, place stuffed cheetahs around your room or hang pictures of cheetahs in the wild.

    School Spirit

If you are currently attending college, paint your walls to highlight this achievement. Most colleges have official colors which can easily be painted onto your walls to show your pride. If you are not yet in college, paint your walls using the colors of the college you want to attend. If you never attended college but always wanted to, paint the walls using the colors of the college you wanted to venture to.

    The Compromise

If you are living alone, than you have free range to paint your walls whatever colors you wish. However, if you live with a roommate or a spouse, you need to factor in their opinions. If each of you has a different favorite color, paint the walls both colors to showcase this. You can paint each wall a solid color, or use one color as a base and the other to add stars, streaks or another design. If you share the same favorite color, you can paint the walls using two different shades of the same color.
