The Hillbilly Boogie, also known as the Hillbilly Rock, Hillbilly Roll, is a popular line dance set to the song "Hillbilly Rock Hillbilly Roll" by The Woolpackers. This dance is simple but consists of 48 counts, which is longer than the standard 32 you see in most line dances. Rather than being difficult to learn, it takes time to memorize each step in the correct order. Once you have it down, you'll be able to participate at any country western club that plays this song.

First 4 Count

The Hillbilly Boogie uses whole counts, meaning the dancer counts out "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8," using one count for each move. To begin this line dance, count "1-2-3-4" as you step forward with your right foot, hook your left foot behind your right knee, step back on your left foot and kick your right food forward. On counts "5-6-7-8," step back on your right foot, step your left foot together with your right, step your right foot forward and hold on the eighth count.

Second 4 Count

Moving onto the next eight count, begin back at "1-2." On counts "1-2," touch your left toe next to your right foot, then left heel next to right foot. On counts "3-4," rock step your left foot to your left side then hold. A rock step to the left involves stepping your left foot to the left while simultaneously lifting your right foot slightly from the floor. On counts "5-6" step your right foot to your right side, then cross-step your left foot behind the right. On counts "7-8," step your right foot to your right side and hold.

Third and Fourth 4 Count

For the next "1-2-3-4" count, step your left foot forward, hook your right foot behind your left knee, step back on your right foot and kick your left foot forward. For "5-6-7-8," step back on your left foot, step your right foot next to your left, step your left foot forward and hold. Count "1-2" again and touch right toe to left foot, then right heel to left foot. Count "3-4" and rock step to the right (step right, lift left foot), then hold. Count "5-6" and step forward on your right foot while lifting the left heel off the floor, then pivot a half turn to the left with both feet on the floor. Count "7-8" and touch your right toe to the left foot and hold.

Fifth 4 Count

Next, count "1-2" and step forward on your right foot while bringing your left heel up from the floor. On "3-4" rock back on your left foot, then step your right foot back and rock onto your heels, bringing your toes off the floor. On "5-6" step forward on your right foot while bringing your left heel off the floor, then pivot a half turn left and change your weight to the left foot. On "7-8," touch your right toe to your left foot and hold.

Sixth 4 Count

To end the dance, count "1-2-3-4" and cross-step your right behind your left, step left foot to left side, step right foot to right side and hold. Count "5-6-7-8" and cross-step your left foot behind your right, step your right foot to the right side, step your left foot to the left and hold. Once you complete this step, begin the dance at the top until the song is over. When you're comfortable, stylize your moves by grabbing the brim of your hat, rocking your hips, retaining a bounce in your knees throughout the moves or holding your belt loops.
