Embrace the Hollywood theme of your party and introduce glitz and glam to the buffet table. With proper lighting, your table will catch your guests' eyes as it lights up with Hollywood sparkle. Set the table apart with silver decorations, balloons, dishware and a few Hollywood-related props. Whether you are hosting an Oscar night, a Hollywood birthday or a glamorous anniversary party, carry the Hollywood theme to the buffet and eat in style.

Items you will need

  • Tablecloth
  • Curtains
  • Mirror
  • Dishware
  • Glassware
  • Balloons
  • Streamers
  • Cardboard stars
  • Flowers
  • Lights
  • Candles
  • Props, such as film reels or small Oscar statues
Step 1

Dress the buffet table in a material with a bit of shine. For instance, use a cherry red cloth with sequins, a silver tablecloth with a layer of chiffon or an all-black cloth covered with a layer of silver or stars.

Step 2

Drape curtains (choose black or red) above the table to cover the wall. Next, hang a mirror, preferably an ornate rectangular mirror above the buffet table to reflect shine and allow guests to see themselves and the rest of the party room.

Step 3

Tie groupings of black and silver helium-filled balloons to each end of the table. If the buffet table is exceptionally long, add another group of balloons in the middle of the table.

Step 4

Dangle cardboard stars and streamers from the ceiling above the table. Adjust the height to ensure they will not interfere with the food or guests.

Step 5

Place a floral arrangement on the table. One idea is to use one large arrangement placed at one end of the buffet, mixed with a variety of blooms placed in low bowls along the length of the table. Sprinkle glittery stars across the table. This looks best against a black or red tablecloth.

Step 6

Stack all necessary dishware neatly. Next to the dishware, create a display of glassware featuring a special drink. Place a light behind the drinks to light them up. Use sparkling wine or sparkling water with a few cranberries floating in champagne flute.

Step 7

Hang twinkling lights around the mirror or on the wall above the table. Add candles to the buffet table, keeping in mind that tealights and low votives work best for a buffet.

Step 8

Arrange full-size metal film reels on the buffet table to act as trivets for hot plates of food. Add small Oscar statues along the table.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a red carpet to lead guests to the buffet. Create an extra buffet table with a chocolate fountain for additional glamor. Post a shiny silver banner on the front of the buffet table with an appropriate message for your type of party.
  • Check the height of the streamers hanging near the candles to make sure there is enough distance between them. One idea is to set candles behind the food on a box covered with additional cloth. The candles will provide the much needed light without posing a threat to guests or decorations.
