You can easily create your own list of hip-hop videos for your next party or for your personal use. Becoming a video DJ is as simple as using the playlist function on the popular video website YouTube. By taking advantage of this fun and innovative aspect of the streaming video site, users can choose to either watch and play their videos in a predetermined order or shuffle the music videos randomly. Your custom hip-hop party mix is only a couple of clicks away.

Items you will need

  • Internet access
Step 1

Navigate to the YouTube main page and log in using your user name and password by pressing the "Sign In" button at the top right corner of the page. If you do not have a YouTube account, click the "Create Account" button located directly next to "Sign In." The website will ask you to choose a user name and password, as well as fill out some personal information. When all the fields are complete and you have read the terms and conditions, click "I Accept."

Step 2

Locate the search bar at the very top of the page and enter an artist and song that you would like to include in your hip-hop playlist. If you like, you could even search for "Hip Hop Videos" if you are unsure of which songs to add. Press "Search" and a results page will populate the screen. Many artists will have an official YouTube page that includes high quality music videos, usually under the VEVO banner. When possible, look for the words VEVO when choosing a video to add to your playlist. Double-click on the video of your choice.

Step 3

Click the arrow next to the "Add To" button located directly under the music video screen area. Within the drop-down menu, choose "New Playlist" and the type field will appear. Enter the name of the playlist. Make sure the name of your playlist is memorable, yet something that sets it apart from future playlists you may create. If need be, you can change the playlist name later. Press the "Enter" button on your keyboard and a playlist window will appear at the bottom of the page. Your chosen video will be the first item in the list.

Step 4

Repeat the process of searching for a video and adding it to your new playlist. When you press the drop-down menu under the "Add To" button, your created playlist will be available to choose. Add as many videos as you wish to your hip-hop playlist.

Step 5

Click on the first video on the list to listen and watch. The playlist will rotate in order of the selected videos. If you wish to randomly shuffle the order of the songs played, click the "Turn Shuffle On" button on the right side of the playlist window. To skip songs, press the arrow keys on the left side of the playlist window.

Tips & Warnings

  • All videos that you add to your playlist are immediately saved by the website, so there is no need to do a final save at the end of your session.
  • If you ever lose your playlist window, it can be found under your account information at the very top right of the YouTube page.
