A longboard skateboard is typically made from wood, so it can be challenging to clean. Cleaning a longboard deck or top is not difficult, but you have to take care not to damage the wood that makes up the board deck. Preventative maintenance, such as only wearing clean shoes and keeping the board away from mud and other materials that can dirty the top, will keep your board looking like new and eliminate the need for deep cleaning.

Items you will need

  • Soft bristle brush
  • Work cloths
  • Toothbrush
  • Mild soap
  • Old towels
  • Deck tape
  • Utility knife
Step 1

Brush the top of the board with a soft bristle brush to remove any stuck-on dirt or pieces of mud. Wipe the surface of the board with a damp cloth.

Step 2

Place a few drops of a mild dish soap into a bowl of warm water. Stir the mixture for a few seconds until suds form.

Step 3

Dip the toothbrush in the soapy water and scrub the surface of the deck tape to remove any stains from shoes and dirt. Follow the soapy scrub with a clean water scrub.

Step 4

Blot the top of the board dry with old towels. Allow the board to dry for two or three hours.

Step 5

Check the condition of the tape. If the deck tape is peeling or looks torn or dirty, then you should replace it. Peel off the old deck tape and discard it. Center the tape in the middle of the deck and place it on the board from nose to tail. Smooth out the tape with the handle of a screwdriver. Trim any excess tape with a sharp utility knife.
