Children's Birthday Party Ideas in Austin, TX

by Olayemi Phillips

Everything is big in Texas, including birthday celebrations. Whether your kids are 2 or 12 there's a party idea for them and locations to make the day truly memorable. If the thought of rambunctious little ones running through the house sends shivers through you, consider a party at a local play space, arcade or museum. Most of these kid-oriented facilities offer birthday packages to suit your budget. Best of all, cleanup is usually included in the price so you can finally relax and leave the work to someone else.

Gymboree

Gymboree (gymboreeclasses.com) will thrill the under-5 crowd. The young guests enjoy 1 1/2 hours of play at the Gymboree facility with a trained staff member as a guide. Locations accommodate up to 20 children with their caregivers. Invitations and goody bags are included in the price. The guest of honor receives a special gift. The little ones will have a blast and parents can relax and leave the cleanup to Gymboree staff. Choose between three convenient Austin locations, covering South West and Central Austin, North Central and West Austin and North West Austin.

Build-a-Bear Workshop

Party on a smaller scale at Build-a-Bear Workshop (buildabear.com). Your little one and a few friends will enjoy picking out and stuffing their very own furry friends. Take a small group of kids or schedule a party if you have six or more guests. Partygoers receive favors to take home and the birthday boy gets a special photographic memento. A party planner is on hand to help with the celebration. If you book a private party room, bring snacks as none are available at Build-a-Bear. Find the workshop at Barton Creek Square on the upper level of the Nordstrom wing.

Inflatable Wonderland

Active kids will enjoy Inflatable Wonderland (Inflatablewonderland.com) with its moon bounces, slides and crawl mazes. The facility provides a physically challenging environment and is located inside the Lakeline Mall. You can join the kids or supervise from one of the viewing areas. All party packages must be reserved ahead and include two hours of party play and a host. Simple finger snacks and drinks are allowed but can also be purchased at Inflatable Wonderland for a hassle-free experience.

Blazer Tag

Round up a team of kids and head over to Blazer Tag (blazertag.com) for the afternoon. Turn them loose for a thrilling game of Laser Tag that will have their adrenaline rushing. Each player tags his opponent with a laser beam to score points in this high-paced, high-tech game of hide and seek meets tag. Choose from party packages which range from a basic "Birthday Blast" to a three-game "Supercharger Birthday." Each party comes with pizza, soda and birthday cake for the guests. If Laser Tag is not your child's idea of fun, buy a bag of tokens and let the kids check out the arcade. Blazer Tag is located in the Southwood Center on Ben White Boulevard.
