Located near the Great Smoky Mountains, Cherokee, North Carolina is home to many attractions for outdoor enthusiasts. Cherokee is known for its mild temperatures, and visitors can enjoy whitewater rafting, Jeep tours, helicopter tours and hiking. Other entertainment options include camping, a zoo, fun park, theaters, Harrah's Cherokee Casino and the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.

Cherokee KOA

The Cherokee KOA is located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, just off of Acqoni Road. The campground is bordered by the Raven Fork River and has nearby stocked trout ponds for fishing and fly fishing. The Cherokee KOA is open all year and features cabins, cottages, lodges, teepees and RV hookups. The location also features a swimming pool, hot tubs and entertainment. At the time of publication, rates for tent sites with no hookups start at $23 per day, and lodges are available for up to $130 per day.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Cherokee is located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park off of Galamore Bridge Road. The campground is open all year and features air conditioned cabins, tent camping, lodge rentals, RV sites, a heated pool and stocked trout fishing. There is also a playground, craft center, movie theater, four-wheel bike rentals and organized activities during peak season. As of July 2011, rates range from $27 a day for off-river tent sites with no hookups to $169 a day for lodge rentals.

Indian Creek Campground

The Indian Creek Campground is located off of Blue Ridge Parkway close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The location features stocked trout streams, creeks for swimming, a playground, horseshoes and campsites along the creeks. The campground is open mid-March through October, and cabin rentals, RV sites and tent camping is available. As of publication, rates start at $24 a day for a tent camping site with no hookups to $90 for cabin rentals.

Mile High Campground

The Mile High Campground is located close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campground is open May 15 to Oct. 15 and features secluded campsites, RV parking and cabins. The site sits at an elevation of 5,280 feet above sea level and is located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Rates vary at this campsite and visitors must call for more information.
