The iTunes program plays music or videos from a library that is stored on the hard drive. To make a foot pedal control a function of iTunes, rather than pressing one of the controls, install a program that interacts between the pedal and the program's controls. A number of these free programs are available for download.
Items you will need
Plug the USB cable attached to the foot pedal into one of the USB ports on the computer. Click the red "X" in the upper-right corner of the "Found New Hardware" pop-up window when it appears.
Download an iTunes plug-in for the foot pedal. Double-click the file once it is downloaded to decompress it to a program on the desktop. Double-click the program to launch it. Follow the menu prompts of the installer program to install the plug-in into the iTunes program. Quit the installer once it states that it is completed. Restart the computer.
Click "Start." Select "iTunes" from the "All Applications" menu. Click "View" at the top of the iTunes main program's screen. Select the foot pedal plug-in from the drop-down menu.
Configure the settings on the window that appears so as to enable the foot pedal to control iTunes; for example, clicking the check box to activate the "Play" button if a left click on the foot pedal is enacted.
Click the "Apply" button on the window when done with the configuring. Close the window by clicking the red "X" button in the upper-right corner. Quit iTunes. Launch iTunes again to use the foot pedal to control it.
Tips & Warnings
- The installation requires compatibility between the foot pedal and the program if the two are to work with each other.
