Camping Near Lake Maurepas, Louisiana

Lake Maurepas is located in southeastern Louisiana, roughly halfway between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It receives fresh water from the Blind River, the Tickfaw River, the Amite River and the Natalbany River. At its northeast side, it is connected to Lake Ponchartrain. Lake Maurepas is a popular local spot for fishing and boating; it has two shallow, sandbar areas located on the western shore that are good places to drop anchor and swim or sunbathe. There are several campgrounds located nearby.

Tickfaw State Park

Tickfaw State Park (crt.state.la.us/parks/itickfaw.aspx) is located a short distance northwest of Lake Maurepas outside the town of Springfield. Along with the fishing and boating available at Lake Maurepas, visitors to Tickfaw State Park can investigate a cypress and tupelo swamp, hardwood and pine forests and the Tickfaw River. Tickfaw State Park offers deluxe cabins and group cabins with basic cookware and linens available with the rental. Campsites with water and electrical hookups and campsites with water hookups only are available for RVs and tents.

Hidden Oaks Family Campground

Hidden Oaks Family Campground (hiddenoaksfamilycampground.com) is a short drive north of Lake Maurepas. Located in the town of Hammond, the campground offers accommodation for tents, trailers and motor homes, as well as cabin rentals. Hidden Oaks has a fully equipped camp store, a swimming pool and a beach area on the Tangipahoa River.

Calloway RV and Campground

Also located in the town of Hammond is the Calloway RV and Campground (no website; 14154 Club Deluxe Road, Hammond 70403; 985-542-8094). Open year-round, this campground has pull-through RV sites as well as tent sites and cabin rentals. There is a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi for guests. The campsites feature 50-amp service and there is a seafood restaurant next door to the campground.

Yogi's Jellystone Campground and Resort

Just to the east of Hammond is the town of Robert, the home of Yogi's Jellystone Family Campground and Resort. Visitors to Jellystone can enjoy all the amenities of a family-friendly campground. Jellystone has 374 campsites and 88 cabin rentals. There are swimming pools as well as a whirlpool and a playground. The campground features a game room as well as miniature golf, a basketball court and a baseball field. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats are available for rent. Laundry facilities and a camp store are also on-site.
