Campgrounds Around Lake Osakis, Minnesota

by Lynda Wilson

Lake Osakis, located in west central Minnesota, is a 6,300 acre lake that attracts visitors for its fishing and recreational opportunities. It is known as one of the premier fishing lakes in Minnesota for walleye, northern, sunfish, crappie and large and small-mouth bass. Bird watchers are also drawn to the area to view the rare Clark's greve and a variety of terns, egrets, herons and waterfowl. The area is also rich in history. The 1938 discovery of human remains, later dubbed "Sauk Valley Man," were dated to be from 2410 to 2240 B.C., indicating the presence of humans in the area dating back to the Archaic period.
