Boston Hotels by the Museum of Art

by Joy Uyeno

The ever-revolving exhibits at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts make it a popular attraction for travelers, and there are several hotels within a mile of the establishment. The museum is located in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, which puts visitors within close proximity of Fenway Park, the Prudential Center, the Public Gardens and Kenmore Square.

Hilton Boston Back Bay

The Hilton in Boston's Back Bay is near the Prudential Center and Hynes Convention Center. From the hotel, guests walk less than a quarter-mile to the Prudential Center T stop to catch the streetcar to the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) stop. Those who enjoy walking can see the city by foot, as the MFA is less than a mile from the hotel. The 390 tasteful guest rooms at the Hilton feature Suite Dreams mattresses, which are layered with crisp sheets, a white down comforter and Touch of Down pillows. Guests can take advantage of the hotel's indoor pool, fitness center and 24-hour business center. The hotel's restaurant, Forty Dalton, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Colonnade Hotel

The Colonnade Hotel underwent a $25 million renovation in 2008, transforming the hotel into a chic boutique establishment in the heart of Back Bay. The 248 guest rooms are decorated in a palette of charcoal, chocolate and creme against light wood. Floor-to-ceiling windows and plush mattresses dressed in white sheets make each room feel airy and large. The hotel has a rooftop pool with sweeping views of Boston, and there is a fitness center for guests. The Colonnade is a pet-friendly hotel, with packages that include a pet bed, a selection of pet foods and dog-walking services that can be arranged through the concierge. Brasserie Jo is the hotel's authentic French restaurant, offering a distinctly Parisian atmosphere.

Eliot Hotel

The Eliot Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel that has been recognized as a favorite hotel by "Travel + Leisure" magazine. There are 95 guest units in the hotel, 75 of which are suites with separate living and sleeping areas. All of the rooms are decorated in a plush, contemporary European style that combines classic elements like canopy headboards with sleek lines and a current color scheme of chocolate and light teal. Guests receive complimentary access to the nearby Boston Sports Club. The Eliot is a pet-friendly hotel with pet-sitting services available upon request. Two of Boston's top-rated restaurants, Uni Sashimi Bar and Clio, are housed at the Eliot. Both have been named by "Boston Magazine" as some of the "Best of Boston."

Hotel Commonwealth

From the Hotel Commonwealth, the MFA is a pleasant 15-minute stroll through the tree-lined Brookline and Fenway neighborhoods. The 148-room boutique hotel is just off of the Green C line in the heart of bustling Kenmore Square. Guest rooms combine classic New England decor with current technology to create spaces that are at once luxurious and functional. Guests can take advantage of the fitness center, complimentary wireless Internet, a DVD lending library and pet services -- sitting, grooming and walking. Its Eastern Standard restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Island Creek Oyster Bar is open for light fare, dinner and cocktails in the evening.
