Museums

Many museums now offer organized birthday parties, including choices of activities, food options and even sleepovers. The Canadian Children's Museum (civilization.ca/childrens-museum) has party packages designed for children ages 3 to 12. Choose from the "Magic Traveller" or "Mysteries of Egypt" party themes. The Canada Aviation and Space Museum (aviation.technomuses.ca) features activities in which preschoolers can help find the right airplane for delivering the mail, kids 6 to 8 years old can put together an aircraft and practice ground control signaling, while kids ages nine to 12 can don a pilot's uniform, make a jet and tour a real cockpit. At the Science and Technology Museum (sciencetech.technomuses.ca), kids can explore transportation, magic, electricity or space. At most museums, the party's price includes all-day admission to the museum as well.

Animal Activities

For most kids, a birthday party with animals is a dream come true. At Pinto Valley Ranch (pintovalley.com), party guests can enjoy the petting zoo, pony rides, a barn tour of all the animals and either a sleigh or wagon ride, plus hot dogs and juice. The ranch also has trail rides for older kids and adults. Little Ray's Reptile Zoo (raysreptiles.com) offers parties at its location or will bring a selection of animals to you; choices range from turtles, lizards, amphibians and snakes to larger reptiles or the "Big Bad Bug Show," which includes insects and spiders.

Tag Games

Older kids and adults enjoy laser tag and venues are elaborate and challenging. Laser Quest's Ottawa location (laserquest.com) offers birthday parties for eight or more guests, which include two laser games, certificates for future play, a party room and optional pizza. At Tag Zone (tagzone.ca), guests can enjoy two hours of "paintless paintball" games with skill levels ranging from easy to more challenging. The birthday guest plays for free and receives a Tag Zone T-shirt.

Amusement Parks

Family amusement venues usually offer choices of several types of activities for the party. Fun Junction (funjunction.ca) offers jungle gym play, a glow-in-the-dark mini putt area, rock climbing and laser tag. Parties can include one or several activities, plus game tokens for every guest. The birthday packages at Midway Family Fun Park (midwayfunpark.com) include choices of jungle gym time, mini golf, bumper cars, arcade games and go-karts. Sleepover parties in the jungle gym area are available as well.
