Aurora, Illinois is located about 45 miles from downtown Chicago in the western suburbs along the banks of the Fox River. This area -- also known as Fox Valley -- is home to nearly 200,000 people, making Aurora the second largest city in the state. With a population that large, there are many options for birthday parties suitable for a 6-year-old boy.
Airtastic Play Land (airtastic.com) provides a party package that includes food, either snacks or pizza, as well as two hours of playtime and use of its private party room. Bring your own banners to celebrate your 6-year-old's birthday and invite his closest friends for an afternoon of inflatable play. At Monkey Joe's (monkeyjoes.com/Aurora), where kids can bounce, slide and jump, you can host a party for up to 24 kids; table settings, invitations and a T-shirt for the guest of honor are included. Pizza and ice cream may be purchased and you can bring in your own birthday cake.
If your 6-year-old is interested in sports, consider taking him to see the Kane County Cougars (kccougars.com), who play in Geneva, Illinois, a mere 10 miles from Aurora. The Cougars offer four birthday packages, all for groups of 10. The basic package includes a team-autographed ball and a "Birthday Blast" T-shirt for the birthday boy, introduction over the PA, souvenir caps for everyone in your group, vouchers for turns at the Speed Pitch Booth and 50 "Birthday Bucks" to use at concession and souvenir stands. And within about 30 to 45 minutes, you can be at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, where you can take in a Chicago Wolves (chicagowolves.com) hockey game. The Wolves also offer birthday packages for groups of 10 or more, ages 15 and younger. You will save up to $4 per ticket for groups of 10 to 29 people, the birthday boy will get a Wolves hat, each guest will get a Wolves party favor and a "Happy Birthday" message will scroll on the lighted Matrix board during the game.
Six-year-old boys have tons of energy to expend. At places like Luigi's Pizza and Chasers Laser Tag (luigispizzaandfuncenter.com), your boys can enjoy their party meal before or after they chase and dodge each other while playing Laser Tag. At Sport Zone (sportzonepark.com), with five party packages to choose from, the boys can play in batting cages, chase each other in go-karts or play miniature golf.
A Day in the Park
The Fox Valley Park District (foxvalleyparkdistrict.org) has a lot to offer. There are 17 picnic shelters at parks located around the district and they are available for rent for special gatherings, including birthdays, for groups of 25 or more. Reservations for the season begin the first Monday in February for the season that runs May 1 through the second weekend in October. No alcohol is allowed at any park or park shelter, except for the district's Cool Acres, which helps ensure a family-friendly atmosphere for a 6-year-old's birthday party.
