Beijing, the capital of China, is one of the world's greatest cities with a 2010 population surpassing 12 million, and engine for the world's second largest economy. It is China's cultural and economic heart. China, for much of the 20th century, was known as a closed society, but the past few decades has opened its doors to international hotels from around the world. One can find ultra-luxurious business destinations, innovative hotel brands and family-friendly bases for exploring the many tourist attractions.
As of 2010, Marriott Hotels has 11 properties -- Courtyard, Marriott, Renaissance and Ritz-Carlton brands -- throughout Beijing. The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing and The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street are Marriott's ultra-luxury properties in Beijing, two of only 21 five-star hotels recommended by Five Star Alliance. The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing was also the top property in China, according to Travel+Leisure World's Best Hotels 2010. Marriott has two Beijing Courtyards, economical properties catering to business travelers. Beijing also has four Marriott hotels and two Renaissance hotels.
Hilton has three properties in Beijing as of 2010: Hilton Beijing Wangfujing, Hilton Beijing and Hilton Beijing Capital Airport. Each of the Hilton hotels provide guest with amenities like a swimming pool, fitness center and restaurants. The Hilton Beijing Wangfujing, located in the city's center, has been awarded the "World's Leading Lifestyle Hotel" for three consecutive years (2008 to 2010) by the World Travel Awards.
Starwood Hotels, representing Aloft, Four Points, Sheraton, St. Regis and Westin hotels in Beijing, is one of the world's largest hotel groups. It has hotels spread throughout the city, from The Great Wall Sheraton Hotel to The Westin Beijing Financial Street. The St. Regis Beijing was the No. 6 hotel in China, according to Travel+Leisure's Worlds Best Hotels 2010. Starwood's newest brand, Aloft, is an economical, yet contemporary, designed hotel located in urban centers. And the Aloft Beijing, Haidian is delivering on these expectations with public spaces intended for socializing like the re:mix lounge and 24-hour fitness center re:charge.
Novotel Hotel and Resorts
Novotel Hotel and Resorts, a hotel group catering to business travelers, has three hotels, as of 2010, located in Beijing. Each property provides guest rooms with work desks, Internet connections and flat-screen televisions. All hotels have meeting space and business services as well as amenities like fitness centers and dining outlets. Novotel provides some of Beijing's cheapest accommodations with all three hotel's rates starting at less than $100 per night as of 2010. The Hotel Novotel Beijing Xin Qiao is the closest Novotel property to Beijing's center.
