Basketball Birthday Party Places in California

by Katrina Arthurs

The hardest part of planning a basketball birthday party in California will be deciding what to do and where to do it. California is home to five professional basketball teams that offer great party options for home games during the season. Most major cities have community centers with basketball courts and party rooms, and family recreation centers offer party packages that include everything from entertainment and refreshments to cakes and decorations.

NBA and WNBA Venues

California is home to four NBA teams and one WNBA team. Grab a bite at one of the five clubs and restaurants at the Staples Center (staplescenter.com) before catching a Lakers, Clippers or Sparks game. Rent one of the five luxury clubs or suites at the Oracle Arena (coliseum.com) in Oakland and enjoy VIP seats to a Golden State Warriors home, or make reservations at the Skyline Restaurant in the Powerbalance Pavilion (powerbalancepavilion.com) before catching a Sacramento Kings game.

Family Recreation Centers

Sports complexes and family recreation centers offer a multitude of options for basketball birthday parties. AdventurePlex (adventureplex.org) in Manhattan Beach has a six-goal, 3,400-square-foot basketball court and offers complete party packages, including catering, cake and themed decorations for up to 21 guests. Xtreme Fun (xtremefun.com) in Solana Beach offers basketball with a twist: giant balls and mini hoops. Party goers compete in challenges and relays and participate in interviews and an awards ceremony.

California Beaches

Many California beaches feature outdoor basketball courts and covered pavilions that can either be rented or used free of charge. Beach basketball is a fast-growing competitive sport where the ball is never bounced, there is no out-of-bounds and the goal has no backboard. Laguna Beach offers traditional cement courts with ocean views as well as several sand courts right on the beach.

Budget Friendly Options

For parties on a budget, why not host a basketball-themed birthday party right in your own backyard? Purchase a free-standing basketball goal at a local sporting goods store, or scan the classifieds for a used one. Have your guests wear their favorite basketball jerseys and host a game. Send out basketball-themed invitations, and decorate using a favorite team's colors and mascot. If the party is planned during basketball season, make some popcorn, hand out miniature pompoms and gather around the TV to watch the game. Local community centers are a great place to look when planning a basketball-themed birthday party. Most community centers have indoor and outdoor basketball courts, and offer community rooms equipped with kitchens that can be rented to host a party. Contact your city's parks and recreation department to determine price and availability.
