Attractions & Things to See Near Anaheim, California

    Anaheim, California, -- located in the Southern part of the state -- is the second largest city in Orange County and is centrally located between Los Angeles and San Diego. Many theme parks and other attractions are within driving distance of Anaheim, making it a popular tourist destination.

    Theme Parks

    The Anaheim, California, area provides many opportunities to visit a theme park. Claiming to be "the happiest place on earth," Disneyland is the most well-known of the theme parks in the Anaheim area, boasting an average attendance of around 15 million visitors each year. Other theme parks include Knotts Berry Farm, Legoland, SeaWorld and Universal Studios Hollywood.

    Museums

    The Orange County area is also home to many museums for all ages. The MUZEO in Anaheim hosts three exhibits per year. Each exhibit includes special programs, events and activities. The Discovery Science Museum uses more than 120 hands-on exhibits to teach science, math and technology to young people. It also hosts several temporary exhibits throughout the year. Other museums include Pretend City Children's Museum and Madame Tussauds wax museum.

    Zoos

    If you're looking for wildlife, the Anaheim area offers several options. Visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach for an up-close and personal look at more than 11,000 ocean animals. If you'd rather spend the day with land animals, head to the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park or drive a bit farther to visit the popular San Diego Zoo and Safari Park.

    Water Parks

    Soak up the Southern California sun at the Orange County location of Knott's Soak City Water Park. With thrilling water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool and a special area for the park's smallest visitors, everyone will find something to do at Soak City. Another option is Wild Rivers Water Park in Irvine. Boasting more than 40 water rides and two wave pools, this park is located 15 minutes from Disneyland.
