The Ameristar Casino Hotel in St. Charles, Missouri, sits right on the Missouri River and is home to the largest casino in the Show Me State. Located just minutes from downtown St. Louis, the hotel offers plenty to entice guests to stay for more than just a day or two. Park for free and, in addition to the luxurious hotel, you’ll also enjoy gambling action, spa and entertainment venues and several dining options.

The Hotel

All the rooms here are actually large suites with sunken living rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows and dark wood accents. Space is not an issue on the king size beds with pillow top mattresses and 300 thread count sheets. In addition to two sinks and a large, glass-enclosed shower, the spacious granite-and-marble bathrooms feature a separate tub and a wall-mounted TV. Take a dip in the indoor-outdoor pool, or amble down in the evening to one of several hot tubs or the fire pit.

The Casino

At 130,000 square feet, the Ameristar casino is not only the largest in Missouri, but also one of the largest in the country. High-speed flashing lights greet you as you enter the doors, where you will be surrounded by Victorian-style décor and stained-glass skylights overhead. Exclusive high-limit slots and game tables sit throughout the casino, which also features a live poker room. Since the “loss limit” was removed by a ballot measure in 2008, the stakes are unlimited.

The Restaurants

“Midwest Gaming and Travel Magazine” noted Ameristar as having the Best Pavilion Amenities. With several dining options, Ameristar includes the Landmark Buffet, which offers plenty of fresh vegetables, entrée options and a dessert bar that includes a chocolate waterfall and sugar-free selections. For a romantic dinner, make reservations at Bugatti's Steak & Pasta. The lobster cappuccino is a creamy bisque served in a delicate coffee cup with a dollop of pernod cream.

The Extras

Ease tension away with some time on the “hydro-circuit,” a water-therapy treatment offered at Ara, Ameristar’s luxury spa. Opt for the dry heat of a sauna or the moist air of a steam room, then linger in the whirlpool. Finish in a Swiss shower, which combines an overhead water deluge and multiple surrounding showerheads. In the evening, head to the Bottleneck Blues Bar entertainment venue. Past acts have included “American Idol” finalist Daughtry, and The Go Go's, and comedians DL Hughley and Damon Wayans.
