Albany luxury hotels, concentrated in the downtown area near the state capitol, offer accommodations within an easy walk of the city’s major attractions. Many cater to travelers visiting the area to do business with the state. Albany's top hotels may not exceed the expectations of visitors used to the amenities of big city hotels, but they do provide the extras that earn them the title luxury hotel.

Crowne Plaza Albany City Center

Located near the state capitol building downtown, the Crowne Plaza Albany provides guests with complimentary Ruckus Wi-Fi throughout the property. The hotel has a health club and indoor heated pool. Rooms have pillow-top beds, triple sheeting and seven pillows. Guests on the Priority Club Floor of the hotel have a private elevator and exclusive access to a lounge serving breakfast, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. All guests receive the Sleep Amenities Package, which includes an eye mask and ear plugs.

Morgan State House

Morgan State House, located north of the Capitol on Washington Park is housed in a 19th-century townhouse. The home was the residence of suffragist and artist Alice Morgan Wright, who lived here from 1888 until 1975. Very large rooms at the Morgan State House, which is more like a European boutique hotel than an American bed and breakfast, feature featherbeds, claw-foot tubs and original artwork. An interior garden is a quiet spot for morning coffee, and the common areas retain their original woodwork. With 48 hours notice, the proprietors will arrange in-room massage treatments. Children under 16 aren’t allowed at Morgan State House.

74 State

74 State is a boutique hotel located in a refurbished downtown Albany office and retail building within an easy walk of the Egg, the state capitol building, and the Times Union Center. Rooms, designed to emphasize comfort, feature feather quilts on Eurotop mattresses, deep whirlpool soaking tubs, and granite counters. The hotel buys locally produced furnishings and participates in green initiatives. Marche, an onsite bistro, serves New American cuisine prepared from organic and free-range meats. Daily spa services are available if prearranged.

The Desmond

The Desmond, located just off the Northway near Albany International Airport, has rooms with balconies overlooking an interior courtyard. Furnishings include custom-made four-poster beds with 100-percent Egyptian cotton sheets, imported English wool carpets, and original artwork. The hotel has two indoor pools, a hot tub and fully equipped fitness center. Chef Michael St. John oversees Scrimshaw Restaurant, a AAA Four-Diamond eatery serving New American cuisine that won the 2008 American Culinary Federation's Achievement of Excellence for fine dining.
