Three-dimensional archery is where life-sized animal shapes are used as targets. There are plenty of 3-D archery sites in South Carolina, and people of all ages and skill levels can enjoy this fun sport. The South Carolina Archery Association has affiliate clubs throughout the state, and most have 3-D archery. It is set up in fields, woods or even indoor ranges. Most shoots have unmarked yardage where you have to guess how far away the target is before shooting.
Sandune Archery Club, Myrtle Beach
Sandune Archery Club (sandunearchery.com) is the oldest tournament archery club in South Carolina. It was established in 1962. It hosts popular 3-D target shoots on a course with 45 lanes in a pristine wooded setting that has been left with its natural growth. Most targets look like deer, bear and turkeys. Visitors are welcome to participate in shoots, and the website has plenty of useful information on bow selection and how to participate in tournaments.
Northwest South Carolina
Several archery clubs with 3-D ranges are located within an easy drive of Greenville. Saluda River Archery Club (saludariverarchery.com) in Piedmont, about 10 minutes from Greenville, has a course with 30 3-D targets in a wooded setting. There are water and restroom stations scattered throughout the course, and food and drinks are available. Keeowee Bowmen (keoweebowmen.com) in Central also have a 3-D course, and Tamassee Hills Bowmen in Tamassee have a 3-D competition about once a month.
North and Central South Carolina
There are several 3-D archery ranges in the area around Rock Hill, including Fort Mill Bowhunters (3dshoots.com) in Fort Mill, Bowmaster Archery Club (3dshoots.com) in Lancaster and Lakeview Archery Club (lakeviewarchery.org) in Chester. All these clubs have shoots scheduled throughout the year. Further south there are 20 3-D targets at Wateree Archery (watereearchery.com), and not far off Highway 26 there are regular shoots at Little Mountain.
Southern South Carolina
Bowhunters of South Carolina (scbowhunters.org) have a traditional bow 3-D circuit in Elloree. They conduct regular 3-D shoots and have two 3-D tournaments each year -- one in early February and the other in spring. Near Eutawville, there is the South Carolina Bowhunters Association (sc-archery.com) and Lake Marion Archery Club (lakemarionarchery.com) with a 30-target 3-D shooting range in pine and hardwoods. Further south, there is the Palmetto Archery Federation (palmetto-archery.com) in Summerville. Most clubs welcome visitors, and experienced shooters will help beginners.
